Sarah Muraki from Janesville, WI

Despite living in Wisconsin and being a girl, Sarah has a passion for fishing. She said it was her dream to catch a sailfish. Her brother didn’t care for fishing and didnt even come on the boat. He stayed at the resort with his mom.

Sarah accomplished her goal and caught a beautiful sailfish.

Big Blue Row World Record Attempt

Big Blue and her crew of 16 will depart Morocco in early January 2011 and arrive in Barbados less than 33 days later to claim the fastest Atlantic crossing by OAR. No motors or sails, Big Blue is entirely human powered. The crew of 16 will row 2 hours on and 2 hours off, for the nearly 800 hours they are at sea. They will be rowing non-stop and unsupported!

The crew will be leaving Marina Agadir, Morocco on Saturday, January 8, 2011. They will be rowing to Tarfaya, Morocco where they will start their World Record Attempt. They need to Arrive in Port St. Charles, Barbados within 35 days 6 hours of their start from Tarfaya. Watch for a new countdown when they leave Tarfaya!

Montauk Tackle was a proud sponsor of this expedition. We supplied performance shirts to keep the crew dry and warm while at sea.

Giant Blue Marlin caught in Kona

giant blue marlin

Captain Chuck Wilson on the FIRE HATT out of Kona:
Like that ancient song…it was quite a day for us yesterday, Monday, on FIRE HATT. Kona is legendary for huge Blue Marlin and that is why we are here…oh, and that Paradise thing. After getting lines in yesterday, 15 minutes later we got hit on the “Lucky Linda Lure” – as now named by the lure guy, who copied a lure Linda gave him to make for her. It works!

A 978.5 lb Blue Marlin came up backwards as it was “Tail wrapped”. It was over a 3 hour battle, and IT’S STOMACH WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY…OK. That is fishing. We want our “Grander” during a Tournament this summer.

Striped Bass Season Is Open!

The New York State Striped Bass season opened at midnight and this was my first keeper of the year! The regulations allow for 1 fish over 28 inches and under 40 inches and 1 fish over 40 inches.

The fish was caught on a Spro bucktail with a Berkley Gulp on the back. Go catch em up!

Catching Tuna and Hanging On for the Ride

dave lamoureux bluefin tuna

Came across this story in the New York Times today, thought you all might find it interesting.

Since the end of July, Lamoureux has caught three bluefins this way, paddling a couple of miles off Race Point, at the tip of Provincetown, hooking a tuna and holding on, the rod clipped to a harness on his chest, while being towed at speeds up to 15 miles an hour before the fish exhausts itself.

His most recent catch, on Nov. 5, was a 157-pound bluefin, a record tuna for an unassisted kayak fisherman, and a near record over all, topped only by a 183-pound halibut caught by Howard McKim, an Alaskan, in 2004. Reeling in a halibut, though, has been likened to hauling in a load of plywood, and some of Lamoureux’s admirers consider landing a bluefin, known for its power and ferocity, the greater feat. He is a hero at bait shops up and down Cape Cod. On fishing blogs, a few grumblers call him a dangerous idiot.
